Quinn is a young mother expecting her second baby. She is happy with her husband and son until something horrible happens: her to be born baby girl's life is threatened by a rear sickness: not only she could die but in case she survives the birth she could be brain damaged. What to do?

Quinn needs her mother but she can only talk to her paintings at her father's house.

The situation is so overwhelming that leads her back to her childhood's experience of another life. Somewhere, someplace, there is another Quinn. A Quinn who didn't marry but whose worse problem is to accept her rich and famous boyfriend proposal during a fabolous holiday in the Fiji.

The real Quinn starts finding portals leading her to the other Quinn's life: basically she is drawned by her need to see her mum, but she obviously gets involved with her boyfiriend and going back gets harder and harder.

Eventually she manages to get her eart to heart talking with her mother and surprisingly she decides to go back, close the portals, mourn her mother and give the baby girl and herself a chance to live another life.

Very touching and involving, the plot is sustained by tragicomical characters and scenes, like the one where Quinn gets his brother's boyfiend arrested and then tries everything to rescue him and make up with her mistakes.

Quinn e' una giovane madre in attesa del secondo figlio. La sua vita scorre felice accanto al marito e al bambino sino a quando Quinn riceve una notizia terribile: la vita della bimba che porta in grembo è minacciata da una malattia rara: non soltanto la piccola potrebbe morire ma potrebbe nascere con danni cerebrali. Che fare?
Quinn ha bisogno di sua madre ma puo' solo parlare coi quadri da lei lasciati e per far questo di tanto in tanto si reca presso la casa dei genitori.
Sopraffatta dalla situazione, Quinn cerca rifugio nell'esperienza di un'altra vita da lei vissuta da bambina.
Da qualche parte, in qualche luogo, esiste un'altra Quinn che non è sposata e il cui unico problema è accettare o meno a proposta di matrimonio che il ricco fidanzato le sottopone durante una favolosa vacanza alle isole Fiji. La vera Quinn inizia a trovare dei portali che la conducono a vivere come l'altra Quinn: guidata dalla necessità di vedere la madre, viene inevitabilmente coinvolta nella relazione col fidanzato e tornare indietro diviene ogni volta più difficile.
Alla fine Quinn riesce ad avere il tanto desiderato intimo incontro con la propria madre che a sorpresa la aiuta a prendere la decisione piu' difficile: tornare indietro, chiudere i portali, piangere la scomparsa della madre e dare a sè stessa e alla bimba che sta aspettando la possibilità di vivere un'altra vita.
La trama di queto libro, molto coinvolgente e toccante, è sostenuta dall'inserimento di scene e personaggi tragicomici. Tra le tante Quinn fa arrestare il fidanzato del fratello e poi fa di tutto per salvarlo e rimediare al proprio errore. Da godere.
